Week 8 Preview: Just Glad Week 7 Is Over

Last week was officially the worst week of the season thus far. On top of the fact that there was a slate of crap games on Sunday , the Bears were on bye, leaving us with the half-excited, half-depressed feeling we got after the Cards game for almost a full two weeks. That game was so confusing, on so many levels. We’re looking forward to leaving it behind.

Also adding to the high level of suckitude in Week 7 was the fact that there was no Sunday night game. Football Night in America –which we’re pretty sure is also Lynn Swann’s campaign slogan– has quickly become one of our Top Ten Reasons For Living. So, WTF NBC? Why are you taking away one of our reasons to live? There’s a World Series, you say? Pfft. Give us our goddam football!

Sorry about that. Had to get that off our chest. Now, on to our picks for Week 8.

Baltimore vs. New Orleans
Could this be the week that Reggie Bush finally starts to get loose? Not likely against the Ravens still-stingy defense. Saints are gonna take this anyway. Ravens just aren’t that good.

Seattle vs. Kansas City

We’ll admit, few things make us happier than seeing the Seahawks struggle. It’s not that we have anything against the team, it’s just that since we live in the Seattle regional market, we have to watch them play EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND. Which gets old. So, it brings us a small sense of joy to know that they’re starting Seneca Wallace and Mo Morris this weekend, and are fixin’ to get pasted by the Chiefs in Arrowhead.

Arizona vs. Green Bay

We’re pretty sure that this would be the worst game of the season, if Oakland hadn’t already played Arizona and Cleveland. In any event, we don’t really care who wins this one, but we have a feeling it will be Green Bay. The wheels are coming off in a big way in Arizona.

Atlanta vs. Cincinnati
Both of these teams are both beginning to establish themselves as the no-one-wants-to-play-’em type teams, even though neither is really an elite team. We have no idea who wins this one. Let’s flip a coin, and take Atlanta.

San Francisco vs. Chicago
Bears are breaking out their orange jerseys for this one, which is very festive of them. We’re interested to see if they start getting the ball into Cedric Benson’s hands a little more. We can’t San Francisco making much of a game of this one, so it could be a good opportunity to get Benson more involved.

Houston vs. Tennessee
We really want the Texans to be a good team, and they’re really trying to be. They just don’t have the talent. We’d like to think they’re headed in the right direction, and if Wali Lundy turns out to be a ball player and Mario Williams lives up to expectations, then we’ll forgive for not drafting Reggie Bush. Whatever happens in the long run, we like Houston to take it to Tennessee this weekend.

Jacksonville vs. Philadelphia

The Jags are banged up on both sides of the ball right now, and Philly is coming off two last second losses. There’s no way Philly loses this game. We just saw “Invincible” so we kinda have this Philly thing going on right now. In fact, we’re pretty sure they’re not gonna lose for the rest of the year.

Tampa Bay vs. NYG
The Giants are playing good ball these days, good enough to have some people starting to mention them as a Super Bowl contender. Not real sure about that, but they’re definitely playing better than they were before their bye week a few weeks back. Tampa Bay has turned it around a little bit as well, after a 0-4 start. Looks like their season may not turn out to be a total embarrassment after all. They just don’t have enough firepower to beat the Giants on the road.

St. Louis vs. San Diego

An intriguing match up between two of the better teams in their respective conferences. St. Louis can punish San Diego in the air, if their O line can Marc Bulger a little bit of time. On the other side of the ball, San Diego shouldn’t have too much trouble scoring against a good but not great St. Louis D. Bottom line, there’s going to be a lot of points scored in this one. We’re taking San Diego.

Pittsburgh vs. Oakland
Pittsburgh. That is all.

Indianapolis vs. Denver
Peyton Manning takes his lazer rocket arm into Denver, where the Broncos have established themselves as the best defensive unit in the NFL — they just don’t give up any points. Should be interesting. We can’t see Indy moving the ball on the ground against Denver, and even the Colts can’t beat the Broncos at home with a one dimensional offense. So, in spite of our “never bet on Jake Plummer rule,” we’re taking Denver.

NYJ vs. Cleveland
The Jets could be the worst team in the last decade to make the playoffs, when all is said and done. For time being, they’ll keep beating up on teams like the Browns.

Dallas vs. Carolina
Tony Romo, meet Julius Peppers. Julius, Tony. This one could be ugly. Carolina big over Dallas.

New England vs. Minnesota

Brad Childress has the Vikes playing like one of the best teams in the NFL. Look for this one to be a low scoring slugfest, that the Vikes win on a late field goal.

Marky Mark inspired you? Dude, you might want to lay off the crack pipe a bit.

I like the Bears to win 63-0 this week.
