Parcells Stinkpalms TO

mallrats_stinkpalm1.jpgA friend just sent us this little nugget of wisdom about the TO vs. Philly game, which, apparently is still a top news story:

According to those close to Cowboys players, Bill Parcells was hell-bent on ensuring Terrell Owens wasn’t the star on Sunday. Although it’s no secret Parcells is partial to wideout Terry Glenn — this season — many believe he purposely didn’t want Owens to shine, to avoid the migraines such a colossal ego would cause.

This, in our humble opinion, is the coaching equivalent to the Stinkpalm — shoving your hand up your own sweaty ass crack, and then shaking someone’s hand shortly thereafter, as demonstrated by our hero, Brodie from Mallrats.

Now, Parcells is as Machiavellian as they come, but we’re not sure we buy this whole idea that he purposely cut his best offensive weapon out of the gameplan, just to avoid the headache caused by TO’s out of control ego. By that logic, wouldn’t ensuring that TO had a bad game be just as troublesome for Parcells? After all, you know TO’s gonna bitch if he doesn’t get the ball enough.

Additionally, the numbers don’t really bear the argument out. The fact is, TO was targeted 13 times in that game. The Eagles secondary played well, Drew Bledsoe had an awful game, and TO looked like he wasn’t really trying that hard at times. We’re pretty sure that Parcells had nothing to do with any of that.

We will say, though, that if Parcells did, in fact, give TO the Stinkpalm and purposely cut him out of the gameplan, we’d be pretty psyched about it. Sure, your hand’s gonna smell like shit for a while when you break out the Stinkpalm. But that’s a small price to pay for the smiting of one’s enemies.
