MNF Liveblog: Packers at Eagles

And once again, we’re back with the MNF Liveblog. Don’t we have anything better to do on a Monday night, you ask? And a resounding “no” is our answer.

Here’s what we’re stoked about in tonight’s game:

Donovan McNabb vs. Brett Favre
A future HOFer vs. one of the best QBs in the game today. Whichever team gets better QB play should win this one. Our money’s on McNabb, but you can’t count Favre out on Monday Night.

The Eagles Pass Rush
Even without Jevon Kearse, the Eagles have been gettin’ after the passer like crazy this year. Pressure + Favre = lots of crazy throws, resulting in either a) big plays for the Packers, or b) interceptions. Either way, it’s gonna be fun to watch.

Tirico, Kornheiser, and Joe T.
It’s not that we particularly like these guys. We’re just happy we won’t have to put up with the Madden-Favre man crush for 3.5 hours.

Game on in 10.

GB 9 — PHI 31

Pregame

All the ESPN guys are taking Philly in this one. Tough to pick against ‘em, but Favre has a way of pulling great games out of his ass when he’s in the spotlight.

The Philly faithful are looking extra surly tonight.

Looking at Tirico’s dome, we can only hope that when our considerable parking spots make their way all the way to the back of our head that we won’t be unfortunate enough to have a little tuft of pubes left on our forhead.

Kornheiser’s in fine form, sounding like radio guy. Not sure we agree with his well rehearsed Favre-fallatio (somewhere, Madden is shedding a tear), but he sounds like he’s starting to find his voice. Good piece, Tony.

Not sure what’s more surprising, the fact that Ahman Green is already missing games, or the fact that he was able to make it through 3 games intact.

And it looks like Iron Man Westbrook is out too….jeez, Morency and Buckhalter. We’re just guessing here, but if the over-under on total passes thrown were 120, we’d take the over.
1st Quarter

Packers ball, on their own 25, 14:55 Q1

David Akers successfully makes it through the opening kick off without handing out any beatdowns.

Who the hell is Scott Green? Where is Ed Hochuli? ALL MNF games should be officiated by Ed Hochuli. Man Law.

Packers punt the away on their first drive…nothing doing on offense.

Packers ball on their own 46, 11:57Q1

2 throws to Greg Jennings, and the Packers are into Eagles territory. I hope they give us “this is the deepest penetration of the night” line.

Packers run a screen, and get a roughing the passer penalty….you gotta know they’re gonna call that shit, fatty.

2nd and goal at the 6, Packers throw it again, Driver drops a TD pass on the slant. He needed to catch that.

3rd and goal, Favre incomplete to Driver again, and the Packers settle for a FG. 3-nil GB.

Eagles ball on their own 36, 10:00 Q1

McNabb off play action finds Stallworth down the field. Great play.

Eagles break out the double reverse, with McNabb leading the way, blocking no one in particular. KGB stayed home, but couldn’t make the tackle. Not doing much to shake his rep as a pure pass rusher that can’t play the run.

Packers shoot themselves in the foot with a 15 yard penalty, Eagles 1st down on the 14

Eagles ball inside the 10, pick up the 1st on the ground, and they’re inside the 5. They’re making it look pretty easy.

Eagles bring in 7 fatties to ram it right up GB’s ass on the goalline. McNabb and Buckhalter fuck up the exchange, fumble, and the Pack recover! Huge, game changing play right there….unless, of course, Favre throws a pick for 6 the other way. Which is a distinct possibility.

Packers ball on their own 4, 6:15 Q1

3rd and 1, Packers pick it up on the ground. That’s a big conversion, backed up against their own end zone.

Packers looking pretty effecient so far, mixing it up well with downhill runs and the short passing game. Nice play calling so far on Green Bay’s part.

Morency looks good on a stretch play, for another Green Bay 1st. They’re out near midfield now.

Dhani Jones breaks up a pass play, and gives us the ‘air guitar’, possibly the stupiest choreographed celebration in the league.

Hanson, the Eagles back up DB, misses a great chance for an INT for 6 the other way. You gotta make that play. Bad game so far for Hanson, who was beaten earlier for a TD by Driver and got lucky when he dropped the pass.

Eagles ball on their own 16, 1:20 Q1

Eagles with a nicely executed throwback screen. That’s a tough play to run in the NFL, and gets blown up often as not. Buckhalter caught a couple nice block, play went for 28.

Philly looking very much like a WCO team right now with the short passes. 3rd down coming up.

2nd Quarter

Eagles ball, 3rd down. Aaron Kampman gets good pressure on McNabb again, Eagles punt it away.

Packers ball on their own 10, 14:20 Q2

3rd and 6, ball on their own 14, Favre goes deep down and there’s nothing doing. Sheldon Brown with good coverage. This might be a good time to point out that you can’t have great sex with a guy named Sheldon. Sheldon can do your taxes. Clean your teeth. Even cover deep. But you’re not having great sex with Sheldon.

Um, in other news, Eagles are getting the better of the field position battle right now.

Eagles ball at midfield , 13:29 Q2

McNabb to Mahe for the 1st, and the Eagles are moving the ball into the Packers territory.

Eagles go down the field for the 2nd time, Charles Woodson breaks it up, and it looks like he’s hurt. There’s a surprise from a guy that hasn’t played many 16 game seasons lately.

Eagles convert another 3rd down, great diving catch by LJ Smith.

Smith wide open again, trucks Nick Collins at the 5.

Buckhalter, taking a page out of Ernie Byner’s book, and fumbles again inside the 5. Dude, the Philly fans are going to crucify Buck after the game. Or at least go Tanya Harding on his bum knee. Jeez, rough night, guy.

Packers ball on their on 3, 10:35 Q2

On the bright side for the Eagles, they’re still winning the field position battle.

And Morency gives it right back, Eagles ball on the Packers 6! It’s the battle of the shit-ass running backs!

Eagles ball on the Packers 7, 9:50 Q2

2nd and goal, QB draw and McNabb shows a little shake and bake. Touchdown Eagles!

So, football fans…who sucks worse, Buckhalter or Morency? Jesus.

Packers ball on their own 28, 9:36 Q2
Eagles pass coverage looking bad. Hanson gets called for holding, and they still complete a pass on him.

Morency picks up a 1st down between the tackles. Philly’s defense looks really flat. Trotter and Dawkins nowhere to be seen.

GB tries a screen and lose yardage, and then cry uncle by going for a draw on 3rd down. a 50 plus yard field goal coming up……it’s good!!!!! HUGE KICK.

Great runback by Dexter Wynn….Packers coverage teams are looking bad.

Buckhalter on 2nd & 10, and somehow manages not to fumble…he also missed a huge hole back to the left side.

Eagles go nowhere, and kick it away. Philly looking flat on both sides of the ball.

Packers ball on their own 30, 4:24 Q2

Smells like it’s about time for a Favre interception. Or maybe that’s my ass. Either way, we’re pretty sure Favre’s gonna turn it over soon.

Packers thinking they can run it on the right side against the Eagles. Favre to K-Rob for the 1st down.

Great play by GB, play action pass to Franks. Michael Lewis with the tackle, and he’s still lying on the field. Doesn’t look good. Looks like a neck. This is gonna be brutal for Philly’s secondary.

Lewis went helmet to helmet with Franks, and he’s looking a bit woozy on the sideline. He could very well be concussed. Meanwhile, Morency goes for 10 over the left side, bringing us to the 2 minute warning.

While we don’t wish harm on anyone, we do appreciate the opportunity to use the word ‘concussed.’

Favre gets Donald Driver killed, and Philly’s back up SS is banged up. Jeez, these guys are absolutely destroying each other right now.

Hanson makes a play breaking up a pass. Replay shows that Hanson was riding Jennings like a porn star all the way down the field. GB kicks a 46 yard FG to put it to 9-7.

Eagles ball on their own 15, 1:41 Q2

Al Harris gets nailed for his 2nd penalty of the night.

McNabb tossing more grounders than Greg Maddux right now. He’s looking bad, and predictably, Joe T lays into him. We think Joe , Bill Walton, and Bill Walsh should get together and talk about how great they used to be. Fuckin has beens.

McNabb finds Reggie Brown deep, beating Ahmad Carroll, who is a horrible, horrible person. Well, OK….maybe he’s not a bad guy, but he is a pretty crappy DB.

Hank Baskette get hung out to dry by McNabb, but luckily there’s no one there to hit him.

3rd and 12, McNabb takes a horrible sack, which might take them out of FG range. Philly Bob is about to have a coronary right here.

Akers for the 54 yarder. They run a fake! Akers throws it to the slowest man alive! What the fuck, Philly? Way to completely piss yourself in the last two minutes of the half.

What an awful ending of the half for Philly. We’re gonna go take a piss, grab a brew.

3rd Quarter

Eagles ball on their own, 14:45 Q3
Joe T ripping on McNabb for not having much success. wtf, joe? They’ve completed 5 passes of 20 or more yards.

McNabb takes off for a 15 yard run.

Moats right tackle on 1st down, and he trips himself in the backfield. Gross.

Nice! Eagles 1st down on the ground on 3rd and 3.

3rd and 10 coming up for the Eagles. McNabb under pressure, takes off for 11 and a 1st down. We love the pump fake 7 yards downfield. Nice, Donovan.

Making the Moats of a bad situation? You’re killing us Tony.

Looks like the Eagles have figured out that the Packers have a terrible run defense.

Moats again off left tackle. Great lead block.

Eagles sticking with the run, nothing doing this time. 2nd and 2, that was time for play action right there.

4th and 1, Akers good from 40. That woulda been a great spot for a fake FG if they hadn’t blown their wad in the first half.

Let’s see we got 4 FGs and 1 TD off a 6 yard drive. And we’ve got another real offensive treat here on Monday night.

Packers ball on their own 21, 8:14 Q3
Favre throws into triple coverage down the sideline, incomplete.

Jennings, great catch on the sideline, and Brian Dawkins lights into him. That’s a snot hit right there. Andy Reid decides to give it the limp wristed Nick Saban style challenge. We think they got it right on the field. Looks like a catch to us.

Short review, ruling stands. Bad challenge.

Donald Driver gets hit the face with a Brett Favre pass. Footsteps, Donald?

3rd and 4, Favre misses Driver, who was well covered.

Rayner for another 54 yard FG, and it’s NO GOOD!!!! Missed badly to the left.

5:55 left in the 3rd, NFL Logue predictions:
1. Sean: 20-9 Philly.
2. Philly Bob: Refuses to make a prediction.
3. Brett: 27-23 Philly. Green Bay up 23-20 late, Favre INT for TD with 3 minutes left.

McNabb deep to Greg Lewis for the TD!!! You can’t stop Greg Lewis! You can only hope to contain him. Great pass by McNabb, not really a great route by Lewis. Ahmad Carroll gets smoked in coverage. Eagles 17-9.

Packers ball on their own 27, 5:00 Q3
Favre throws a bullet off Morency’s hands, ends up in the hands of a great big fatty for Philadelphia who took a great big turn, loses about 10 yards on the return. INT, baby. That could be a backbreaker if the Eagles can get a TD.

Eagles ball on the Packers 45, 4:06 Q3
McNabb goes deep to Brown, incomplete, but they get PI on Carroll. Rough game for Carroll. You know, he’s not a real good CB….but we didn’t see any PI.

McNabb to Lewis again for the TD!!!! Looked like the Packers weren’t even trying. That’s ball game right there.

Of course, knowing the Eagles, they’ll let the Packers right back in it.

Packers ball on their own 20, 3:45 Q3

Packers going the wrong direction.

Favre throws another INT, but there’s a flag in the secondary. Yup, it’s coming back. Huge break for the Packers.

Packers still have the ball, but Favre is starting look a little shaky, like he’s gonna throw at least one more INT, maybe two.

Favre overthrows Jennings, who was behind the corner and had a step on the safety.

3rd and long, Favre with a great throw to Driver, who found the soft spot in the middle of the deep zone. Philly looking soft right there.

Great read by Favre to see Martin heading down the seam. The guy was open, but Favre underthrows it. Micheal Lewis with the INT! Shows the ball the crowd as soon as he picks it off.

4th Quarter

Eagles ball at midfield, Q4
Buckhalter looking like Larry Johnson right now, working off the left side. Man, Buckhalter’s great between the 20’s.

“TO get well soon….so we can hurt you.” That’s the best fan-made sign this side of “Lee Corso is a penis.”

Reggie Brown beats Carroll again, but looks like he took a shot in the nootz.

McNabb takes it into the house, just barely. Once again, Green Bay doesn’t look like they really care about playing defense. 31-9 Eagles.

AJ Hawk looked terrible on that replay. McNabb really wasn’t moving that fast, was running straight up and down, and started celebrating at the 6 yard line.

Packers ball at their own 25, 9:30 Q4

So it’s 31-9, the game is over. Is it time for Aaron Rogers?

Packers moving backwards with two penalties in a row. 2nd and 26.

Pack can’t move it, punt coming up. Can we 10 run this one?

Eagles ball on the Packers 31, 10:55 Q4

Buckhalter misses the hole back the left again. Fumbles aside, Buckhalter has looked OK tonight, but you can see why he’s a back up…the guy has no vision.

KGB gets to McNabb, McNabb gets away. AJ Hawk and Aaron Kampman tag team him for a huge loss. Eagles punt into the Pack end zone.

Seriously, why is Favre still in this game? They’re not even really trying to mount a comeback. We know the guy is a legend and all, but c’mon….get Rogers some snaps. Whether or not the kid can play, he’s the QB of the future. Get him some reps.

This is ridiculous. They’re just pounding the ball with Morency. Why the fuck would you not put Aaron Rogers in for this?

At least the Packers are gracious enough to just pound the ball and take time off the clock.

Favre gets smoked on 3rd down, walks off the field looking like his shoulder is hurting.

2:00 minute warning. Once again, a gross fourth quarter of a Monday night.

You know, there’s something we don’t really like about Aaron Rogers. He kinda reminds us of this guy that used to his on our college girlfriend. That slut. Her, not Aaron Rogers. Well, him too.

Rogers finds Jennings running up the seam, nails a Philly DB for PI in the end zone. That one was pretty obvious.

Eagles deny Morency 4 times in a row at the stripe!!! Great job by the Eagles D right there of the Eagles playing with some pride. America, fuck yeah!

Well, the Eagles let the Pack hang around for a while, but ultimately the Eagles were too much for ‘em. Good team at home, bad team on the road…predictable result. Game ball to McNabb.
